Located in Tennessee, USA, the University of Memphis is one of the
leading American Public Research Universities founded as early as 1909.
It enrolls over 20,000 students every year and
offers 15 bachelor's degrees in more than 50
majors & 70 concentrations, master's degrees in over 45 subjects and
doctoral degrees in about 21 disciplines. Central tenets of the
University's values are commitments to excellence in teaching and
research, innovation and creativity, respect for diversity and
individual worth, responsible stewardship and conservation of
resources & leadership and involvement in the economic, social, and
professional growth of Memphis, the state of Tennessee, and the
nation. Meeting those commitments requires constant assessment of
appropriate directions for the University and hence planning is a
dynamic and continuously ongoing activity.
In order to
accelerate its research agenda and potential, the University established
a research foundation namely UMRF (University of Memphis Research
Foundation) in 2003. The Foundation has enhanced existing research
activities of the University and fostered greater flexibility for
research-related business transactions, including technology transfer,
licensing, contracting, and equity participation.
Systems Testing Excellence
Program (STEP), instituted by UMRF, is the largest software testing
research program in the world with 18 PhD-qualified research faculties
working on software testing projects. STEP also serves as the research
and training partner for the Testing Centre of Excellence at FedEx. It
also maintains research partnerships with leaders like National Science
Foundation, Carnegie-Mellon University, and Microsoft.
